Most popular questions about archery

How do I start Archery?

The best way to start archery is to try it first. You have been warned: Archery is VERY addictive!

How much for a beginner course?

Our beginner courses are $240 per person.

Do I need to provide my own equipment?

Equipment is provided for all beginner courses. If you decide to join the club, you will need to purchase your own gear – we will give you guidance on how to find the right equipment for you!

I can’t come on Saturday or Sunday. Is there another time to shoot?

We do have key holders (range captains) who have keys to open the clubhouse and shoot at different times. Join our WhatsApp group so you can find out who is shooting and when.

I’ve done a beginner course at another club/place. Can I just join?

We will need you to complete a short assessment before you join. To book an assessment, please email Val via coaching@shorearchery.co.nz

When can I get a key?

If you have been a member of our club for longer than six months, you can apply for a target key.

When do you shoot?

We shoot every weekend. Check out our Shoot Timetable for what’s on and what’s coming up.

My kid shoots and I want to help out. Can I?

Of course! We always love a volunteer. We need people to help on working bee days to keep our clubhouse clean and tidy, or we might have a place for you on our committee or in a role where you can help in other ways. Please chat to us about what you can offer, even if it is an hour on a Saturday.

I need more coaching

Please reach out to the club if you want or need more coaching. We can help put you in touch with one of our trained coaches to get you to the level you want.

I want to shoot at a tournament.

We love it when our archers want to compete (and we love them even if they don’t)! Archery can be as competitive or relaxed as you want it to be. Our club regularly runs in-club and inter-club competitions, in addition to hosting tournaments for archers across Auckland (and across the country!), which all our members can take part in. If you’re aiming for the top, please talk to one of our club coaches or experienced archers and they can help you get into competing at a district or national level.
